The last two years have been onerous for the majority of us. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic resulting in an economic recession, many people live in fear, and others have lost their jobs. This has further resulted in various mental illnesses as people try to adjust to all the changes.
It’s okay to feel anxious or stressed. It’s also perfectly reasonable to want to get rid of that uncomfortable feeling in the pit of your stomach. Mindpower Coaches and best-selling authors Stéphane and Shalee Schafeitel share three ways to help you manage anxiety.
Stéphane and Shalee are the #1 international best-selling authors of the book Master Your Mindpower. They are mindpower coaches and the creative minds behind the bi-weekly show “LIVE with Stéph and Shay.”
According to the duo, while coping with anxiety can be challenging, it’s possible to overcome it.
Stéph & Shay explain that it all starts by identifying your triggers. This can be, for instance, financial concerns, negative thinking, skipping meals, conflict or parties, and social events, among other things.
Here are three ways to overcome anxiety and stress, as discussed by Stéphane and Shalee Schafeitel:
- Take deep breaths.
“Deep breaths are known to lower stress in the body,” says Stéph. They help the brain calm down and relax. A message that is then transmitted to the rest of the body.
Stéph & Shay note that taking deep breaths helps you calm down and take charge of the problem more easily when dealing with a triggering situation. It allows you to see beyond your current condition, enabling you to make more calculated decisions while helping you remain relaxed.
In their podcast, The Mindpower Podcast with Stéph and Shay, they explain the benefits of breathing exercises, detailing each exercise.
- Take time outs.
Taking time outs to connect with your inner self gives your body a break, helping you to calm your thoughts and reflect on past activities. During this time, Stéph & Shay recommend participating in different activities that will help make you feel relaxed.
This can be listening to music, going for a walk, mediation, yoga, or any other exercise you enjoy. They explain that stepping back from the problem is really helpful in clearing your head, allowing you to take control of your thoughts and become more focused.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
While it can be tough to keep negative thoughts at bay, Shay explains that approaching the situation from a place of positivity is really helpful. Stéph adds the importance of looking on the bright side and choosing not to blame yourself.
The two explain that there are certain things in life that we have no control over. Although it’s challenging to remain positive, especially when there seems to be no hope, maintaining a positive attitude helps you feel better about yourself and the situation, therefore lowering stress levels.
“Some days will always be worse than others, but you don’t have to beat yourself up,” says Stéphane. The above tips shared by Stéphane and Shalee are the perfect way to start overcoming anxiety.
